Bruce Vaughn

President and Chief Creative Officer, Walt Disney Imagineering

Keynote Speaker • Day 1

As president and chief creative officer of Walt Disney Imagineering, Bruce Vaughn leads the global, multidisciplinary team behind the concept, design and delivery of Disney’s theme parks, attractions, resorts, cruise ships and entertainment experiences. Collaborating with peers across Disney Experiences and the company, Bruce focuses on innovative ways to transform Disney’s extensive collection of beloved franchises, characters and stories into groundbreaking immersive experiences that delight guests around the world.

Bruce began at Imagineering in 1993 as a senior technical specialist and went on to roles of increasing responsibility. Beyond his work at Imagineering, he has been involved in efforts across various divisions of The Walt Disney Company that include Consumer Products, Feature Animation, Location-Based Entertainment, Music, Television, and Theatrical. Bruce departed Imagineering in 2016 to serve as CEO and CCO of Dreamscape Immersive, where he worked to advance virtual reality technologies to create an entirely new form of mainstream location-based entertainment. He later moved on to Airbnb, where he was vice president, experiential creative product, before rejoining Imagineering in 2023.

Chris Dede

Harvard Graduate School of Education

Keynote Speaker • Day 2

Chris Dede is a Senior Research Fellow at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and was for 22 years its Timothy E. Wirth Professor in Learning Technologies. His fields of scholarship include emerging technologies, policy, and leadership. From 2001-04, he was Chair of the HGSE Department of Teaching and Learning. In 2007, he was honored by Harvard University as an outstanding teacher, and in 2011, he was named a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association. In 2023, he was named a Fellow of the Online Learning Consortium. And in 2024, he was named a Scholar of the Immersive Learning Research Network.

In 2020, Chris co-founded the Silver Lining for Learning initiative. He is currently an Advisor to the Alliance for the Future of Digital Learning, sponsored by the Mohammed bin Rashid Global Initiative (MBRGI). Also, Chris is a Co-Principal Investigator and Associate Director for Research of the NSF-funded National Artificial Intelligence Institute in Adult Learning and Online Education.

His most recent co-edited books include: Teacher Learning in the Digital Age: Online Professional Development in STEM Education; Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Realities in Education; Learning engineering for online education: Theoretical contexts and design-based examples; and The 60-Year Curriculum: New Models for Lifelong Learning in the Digital Economy.

As the former Head of Immersive Learning at Meta and a pioneering leader on Interactive Learning Labs at Amazon, Monica Arés is a visionary and leading figure in the field of immersive learning. She is dedicated to developing innovative products, programs, and content to make learning more powerful and accessible.

Monica is a leading expert in immersive technology, using it to empower people to learn, connect, and create in ways they never could before. She is deeply committed to using XR technology to increase access to education and fundamentally transform the way we learn.

The Future of Learning: XR technology has opened up new pathways, transforming how people learn. Free from the constraints of the physical classroom, learners today can unleash curiosity, explore, and connect through virtual worlds, 3D simulations, and immersive experiences. Whether it's taking a virtual field trip back in time, participating in a simulated lab experiment, practicing a new skill, or learning to create XR experiences--immersive technology offers one of the most promising solutions for education the industry has ever seen.

Monica has been featured in Forbes, EdTech Magazine, and Meta's own Immersive Learning Initiative, and she continues to serve as a speaker and advisor shaping the future of learning at conferences and institutions worldwide.

Kimberly Hieftje, PhD

Associate Professor of Pediatrics (General Pediatrics), Yale

Kimberly Hieftje, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at Yale Pediatrics and co-director/co-founder of XRPeds and the Yale Center for Immersive Technologies in Pediatrics, which focuses on the development and evaluation of videogame interventions using extended reality (virtual reality, augmented reality, etc) for health prevention and promotion, behavior change, and education in adolescents and young adults. She is currently involved in the development and testing of several health behavior change XR and game-based interventions and has published frequently on developing, evaluating, and implementing serious games. She has worked on games that have focused on topics including vaping/e-cigarette prevention, tobacco use prevention, risk reduction in adolescents, HIV/STI prevention, HIV/STI testing, empowering girls around healthy decision making, bystander intervention, LGBTQ bullying, school climate, and alcohol harm reduction.

Dr. Hieftje was a K12 Scholar in the Yale Implementation Science program (YSIS), where she focused on understanding the factors associated with successful implementation of videogame interventions in schools.

Dr. Hieftje is also the editor-in-chief at the Games for Health Journal.

Denise Mendez is a transforming innovator and Principal Software Developer on Microsoft's Mixed Reality team, where she builds end-to-end data observability systems connecting hardware, cloud, and user experience. Previously at Magic Leap, she developed telemetry and business-intelligence platforms and architected spatial computing solutions for education. Earlier at Motorola, she advanced test-systems architecture for next-generation mobile technology and global supply-chain engineering. A passionate STEAM advocate, Denise works to expand equitable learning outcomes and thrives in multicultural settings—drawing on her experience with global teams, proficiency in Mandarin and Portuguese, and formative engineering work at NASA's Kennedy Space Center.

Eric J. Gonzalez

Research Scientist @ Google

Eric J. Gonzalez is a Research Scientist in the Blended Interaction Research & Devices (BIRD) Lab, where he works on advancing human-computer interaction for extended reality (XR). His research is broadly focused on novel input & interaction techniques and real-time AI-mediated experiences, and has led to over 25 publications. Previously, Eric received his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 2022 and B.S. from the University of Florida in 2016, with research internships completed at Microsoft Research and Meta Reality Labs. His work has been recognized with multiple awards at top-tier HCI venues, including a SIGCHI Special Recognition for industry-academia collaboration.

Luiza Justus is an experience designer, storyteller, and creative leader dedicated to transforming bold ideas into worlds people can feel. As Head of the Inception Team at ARVORE, she leads concept development for mixed reality games—shaping early-stage ideas, building prototypes, and exploring the intersection of creativity and emerging technology. Previously, she co-founded Supersocial and served as Chief Creative Officer, where she led the creation of branded virtual worlds and original IPs for Roblox. Her background spans film, advertising, and immersive entertainment, including writing and directing The Shitshow Hour, a sci-fi dark comedy that premiered at the Beverly Hills Film Festival, and script editing The Line, an Emmy-winning interactive narrative. Across every medium, Luiza brings together imagination and execution to craft experiences that inspire wonder and connection.

Associate Professor of Art History @ the University of Miami

Karen Rose Mathews is Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Miami where she teaches classes on ancient art, medieval art, Spanish art, and Islamic art. Her research interests address the material culture of the medieval and early modern Mediterranean as well as the use of digital technologies in art historical pedagogy and research.
