UMverse actively participates in faculty associations to foster collaborative learning and innovation among educators and researchers dedicated to immersive technologies. Through these associations, faculty members share insights, develop new teaching strategies, and explore the intersection of VR and academic disciplines, enhancing the educational landscape at the University of Miami.
The University of Miami hosted the "XR and AI in Healthcare Summit" on February 1, 2024 at the Lakeside Village Expo Center, in partnership with the Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Association. This conference brought together medical professionals who are currently using XR and AI technologies, medical professionals looking to learn about the technology, academia, and medical technology companies that are developing solutions to address the needs of the healthcare industry. It consisted of open panel discussions with industry and university experts along with close to 20 demo booths showcasing immersive technology solutions. The University of Miami participated in the 8th annual "Virtual Reality and Healthcare Global Symposium," which showcased healthcare leaders who are on the cutting edge of what’s possible in the field of immersive technologies. Held from February 29 to March 3, 2024, at the Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota, Florida and at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, the Symposium also offered 10 CME Credits for ACCME. With the goal of fostering partnership and collaboration in healthcare, the Symposium distinguished itself with strong focus on: VR experiences: The International Virtual Reality and Healthcare Association (IVRHA) is a member driven organization comprised of entities throughout the healthcare ecosystem, including technology companies, teaching hospitals and universities, as well as healthcare providers and insurance companies. The University of Miami XR Day event was a collaboration with the annual FilmGate Interactive Media Festival, November 30-December 2, 2023. At the crossroads of visual storytelling, entertainment and new immersive technology, this one-of-a-kind international event drew all curious and tech-savvy audiences to explore the best mind-bending stories in interactive and immersive storytelling. The Festival celebrated visual storytellers and supporting industries through in-person and virtual screenings, exhibits, creative labs, master classes, immersive art installations, music, and live events at multiple locations, and concluded with an awards ceremony on a cruise in Biscayne Bay. FilmGate is a nonprofit Miami organization with the goal of ensuring the empowerment and growth of local filmmakers, storytellers, and creators working in the traditional and immersive space. FilmGate provides a platform where they can showcase their art to reach new audiences locally and internationally.
