Faculty Instructions for the UMverse Website: First Year Directions (FYD)
Welcome to the First Year Directions (FYD) course! FYD is partnering with UMverse to offer students a unique opportunity to explore virtual reality with a UM twist. Through this partnership, students will have the chance to experience a groundbreaking initiative designed to expose every incoming student at the University of Miami to immersive cutting-edge technologies. Our students will be able to use virtual reality to complete an assignment for the course and dive into some amazing and unique experiences, only available to students at the University of Miami. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore all that UM and south Florida have to offer!
Students are encouraged to fulfill one assignment in the course using virtual reality. They can choose to use VR to fulfill either:
• One of the three campus engagement reflections, or
• The Miami Adventure Project.
There are three ways to access the UMverse for completing an FYD assignment:
1. Instructors can request a UMverse team member to come to class and facilitate the VR experience during the Miami Adventure Session. Please complete this form to submit your request for someone to visit your class by Sunday, September 15, 2024.
2. Instructors can encourage students to use a VR headset in the library. Encourage students to go with a buddy or two! There is nothing quite like sharing this VR experience with others. Please note that students must reserve a headset no more than two weeks in advance by following the Reserve a spot in the XR Community Lab link (3rd Floor of Richter Library).
3. Instructors can encourage students to check out a VR headset from the library for up to 48 hours. Students can reserve a headset by following the Reserve a Quest 3 Headset link (XR Community Lab on the 3rd Floor of Richter Library).
